This is the third installment of Karen Rivers' XYZ series and the first book I've ever read by her. I read a lot of urban fantasy; it's one of my favourite genres, so this kind of book was right up my alley. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the supernatural aspect wasn't the basis for the entire book. What Z Sees, has in three different views, all in first person. As each chapter completes a new voice comes on to relate what is going on in their life. So not only do we get to see what happens with Zara, but also with what happens with Axel, Zara's twin brother, and Sin, Zara's best friend.
Karen did a great job making each narrator have a distinctive voice and sounding real. Also, I loved the fact that she didn't replaying a certain scene over and over again, but with the different viewpoints. Instead, with each voice there is a different story. So, while Zara was dealing with her new found gift, Axel's story deals more with his drinking problem and finding out a secret, and Sin's story deals with her weight. She's popular in school and always the life of every party, but deep down inside she has some major insecurity problems.
At first, I was annoyed that there were no quotation marks to indicate when someone was speaking, but that wasn't too much of an issue. My biggest complaint would be that I would have liked to have seen what Gigi, Axel's girlfriend, was thinking. Zara mentions what her mother is thinking, her friends, her father, but there was so much tension between Gigi and Zara that I would have liked to have seen what was going through Gigi's head. Zara mentions that there are a little too much layers in her head, but when I read that I thought, "Does Gigi have some sort of way to block people from hearing her thoughts?"
Overall, it was a good read.

Asli has been a bookworm for over 15 years now. Ever since her grade school teacher sent her a bunch of books, she hasn't stopped reading. As for what she reads, anything and everything; from urban fantasy and thrillers to memoirs and graphic novels. If she's not reading a book, you'll most likely find her playing a video game.
