1) How did you get the idea for Airhead? What's up next for this series?
The concept that Airhead is based on has been speculated about by writers for decades, only now it's actually being done in the lab with live (animal) test subjects--with some success! It was probably most famously used it in the prize-winning YA Eva, although that was about a young girl and...a monkey. And before that it was in countless sci-fi novels and movies, with varying degrees of believablity, usually with robots thrown in. I've always fantasized about it being done to me, only substituting a supermodel for the robot (or monkey). How cool would that be? (You sort of have to have read the book to know what I'm talking about.)
And in Being Nikki, Em is going to try to bust Stark Enterprises wide open not just for what they did to her, but for what they did to Nikki...and Nikki's family, who'll also be introduced. Em obviously can't do it alone, so she's going to need a lot of help, primarily from someone who knows a lot about computers and secretive governmental agencies...that, for those not in the know, would be Christopher and his dad. But she'll also need help from Gabriel, Lulu, and, of course Brandon Stark, who may finally confront his dad about just what Stark Enterprises really does. Some of this will trickle into Book 3.
2) I know that you've been finishing up PD10: Forever Princess lately. Can you tell us anything about it, plotwise? Cryptic messages are welcome.
Actually Princess Diaries 10 is done. Here's the flap copy I can reveal (some of it is still top secret--sorry, I can't even give you a hint):
It's the last month of Mia's senior year, and things seem great. She's gotten accepted to her dream college(s), and has her blowout eighteenth birthday gala coming up
not to mention prom, graduation, and Genovia's first-ever elections.
What's not to love about her life? Well
-- Prince Phillipe's campaign in the Genovian elections isn't going well, thanks to the person who's decided to run against him (hint: It's NOT Grandmere, who now that Mia is finished with Princess Lessons desperately needs to get a life of her own).
--Mia's dreamy boyfriend J.P. is so sweet and seemingly perfect. But is he the one?
--Mia's first love, Michael, is back from Japan
and back in her life.
With not just Genovia's, but her own future hanging in the balance, Mia's got some choices to make
which college, which guy
? How can she know what the right decision is, especially when what she decides might determine not just the next four years, but
3) How is the Princess Diaries side project coming along; will it be released around the same time as PD10?
The side project (an adult book written by a Princess Diaries character and which will be published by Avon Books) is done and will be released on the same day as Princess Diaries 10. Both books will come out January 6, I believe.
